A 14-year-old girl has been sexually assaulted by a man in woodland near a busy road in North Lanarkshire.
The attack took place behind Miller Street in Coatbridge at about 20:00 on Friday.
The man, who was not known to the girl, is described as being approximately 6ft tall and was wearing red Adidas Gazelle trainers.
Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
Det Sgt Alan Gardner said: “This was an extremely traumatic ordeal for the victim and it is vital that we identify and trace the man responsible.
“This happened close to a relatively busy area and we are asking anyone who saw a man matching this description, or anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.”
